The Medieval Mind of C. S. Lewis: How Great Books Shaped a Great Mind
Categories: Literature & Fiction, Religion & Spirituality
Jason M. Baxter's The Medieval Mind of C. S. Lewis (2022) turns from Narnia and the apologetics to Lewis the scholar, a professor of medieval and Renaissance literature. Baxter argues that writers such as Dante and Boethius gave Lewis an ordered, meaningful picture of the cosmos that answered modern problems. Chapters move through the medieval model of the universe, Lewis's critique of a mechanized, hurried age, his love of Dante, his approach to prayer and mysticism, and the place of old cosmology beside modern science.

- Patrick Collison: “Had some travel this week. I really enjoyed: … [The Medieval Mind of C. S. Lewis]. Somehow quite different to what it looks like. Middle chapters left me wanting to read more Lewis; have ordered some.”
