The Measure of Our Success (1992) is a short book by Marian Wright Edelman, founder of the Children's Defense Fund, written as a letter to her three sons. Edelman draws on her childhood in segregated South Carolina, her civil rights work and her years as a parent to set out lessons for living well. She urges service to others, hard work, honesty and faith, and asks readers to measure success by what they give rather than what they earn.
