The Little Stranger is a 2009 novel by Sarah Waters, author of Fingersmith and The Night Watch. It was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and adapted into a 2018 film. In 1947, Dr. Faraday, a country doctor, is called to Hundreds Hall, a decaying Georgian mansion in Warwickshire where his mother once worked as a maid. He becomes close to the Ayres family who still live there, just as strange events begin to suggest that the house itself may be haunted.
