James Fenimore Cooper's 1826 historical novel is set during the French and Indian War. The frontier scout Hawkeye and his Mohican companions Chingachgook and Uncas guide two sisters through the wilderness of upstate New York while they're pursued by the Huron warrior Magua. The book is part of Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales and is a classic adventure about the American frontier and the people displaced by its conquest.
