The Kuzari

By Judah Halevi

Categories: Religion & Spirituality

The Kuzari is a philosophical dialogue written in Arabic by the poet and philosopher Judah Halevi in Spain in the twelfth century, based on the story of the conversion of the Khazar king to Judaism. Seeking the right way to serve God, the king questions a philosopher, a Christian, a Muslim and finally a rabbi. Through their conversation Halevi defends Judaism, argues for the authority of historical revelation over abstract philosophy and sets out his views on Israel, prophecy and the Hebrew language.
