The Great Indian Novel
Categories: Literature & Fiction
The Great Indian Novel (1989) by Shashi Tharoor is a satirical novel. Tharoor retells the ancient Indian epic the Mahabharata as the story of India's struggle for independence and its first decades as a nation. Figures from the epic are recast as leaders of the twentieth century, and the aged narrator, Ved Vyas, dictates the story with humor and irreverence.
