The Frontiersmen: A Narrative
Categories: History
The Frontiersmen (1967) is Allan W. Eckert's narrative history of the struggle for the Ohio Valley in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the first book of his Winning of America series. Eckert tells the story through two lives: the frontiersman Simon Kenton, a scout and Indian fighter in Kentucky and Ohio, and the Shawnee leader Tecumseh, who tried to unite Native nations against American settlement. The narrative ends with Tecumseh's death at the Battle of the Thames in 1813.

- Mel Gibson: “The first half of the book is about this guy Simon Kenton and the second half is about Tecumseh... really great book, one of the most fascinating books I've read. You can't put it down.”
