In The End of Reality (2023), writer and producer Jonathan Taplin examines the ambitions of technology billionaires such as Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Mark Zuckerberg and Marc Andreessen. Taplin examines four projects they promote: the metaverse, cryptocurrency, the colonisation of Mars and transhumanism. He argues that these visions offer escape from real-world problems while concentrating wealth and power, and calls for policies to address inequality and climate change instead.
