The End of Poverty: Economic Possibilities for Our Time

By Jeffrey D. Sachs

Categories: Business & Money, Politics & Social Sciences

In The End of Poverty (Penguin Press, 2005), economist Jeffrey D. Sachs argues that extreme poverty could be ended by 2025 through planned aid that helps the poorest countries reach the first rung of the development ladder. Using his advisory work in Bolivia, Poland and Russia, and on India, China and Malawi, he sets out a "clinical economics" that diagnoses each country's barriers, from disease and geography to corruption, before prescribing remedies. He also calls on rich countries to increase aid and cancel debt.
