The Egyptologist
Categories: Literature & Fiction
The Egyptologist is a 2004 novel by Arthur Phillips, author of Prague. It is told through diaries, letters, and documents, and it plays with unreliable narration and the Egyptology craze of the 1920s. In 1922, the same year as the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb, Ralph Trilipush digs in Egypt for the tomb of an obscure king he believes ruled a kingdom of pleasure. Decades later, a retired Australian detective recalls his own search for the truth about Trilipush and the crimes that followed him.

- Stephen King: “Pathological liar of dubious identity goes bonkers while looking for a hidden tomb in the Egyptian desert after World War I. Tragic, pathetic, blackly funny…and with a strange, growing undercurrent of horror. You have never read a novel like it.”
