The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ

By Anne Catherine Emmerich

Categories: Religion & Spirituality

The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ records the visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich, a German Augustinian nun, as written down by the poet Clemens Brentano and published in 1833. It describes the last days of Jesus in detail, from the Last Supper and the agony in the garden to his trial, scourging, crucifixion and burial, adding scenes and figures not found in the Gospels. Mel Gibson drew on the book for his film The Passion of the Christ (2004).
