The Creators: A History of Heroes of the Imagination
Categories: History
Daniel J. Boorstin, the historian and Librarian of Congress, surveys the history of artistic creation in this 1992 book, the second in his trilogy after The Discoverers. Boorstin moves from the anonymous builders of the pyramids and the poets of Homer's epics to Dante, Michelangelo, Shakespeare, Beethoven, Virginia Woolf and Picasso. He asks how individual imagination emerged across cultures and centuries, and how artists in literature, painting, architecture and music have remade the world they inherited.
