The Chessmen of Mars (1922) is the fifth Barsoom novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Tara of Helium, John Carter's daughter, is blown off course in a storm and captured by the Kaldanes, brain-like creatures that ride headless bodies. She is later forced into a game of jetan, Martian chess played with living pieces, and the prince Gahan of Gathol fights to save her.
