The Bookseller's Tale is the first novel in Ann Swinfen's Oxford Medieval Mysteries series, set in Oxford in 1353. Nicholas Elyot, a young widowed bookseller still recovering from the Black Death, finds the body of a student in the river and realizes the death was no accident. With help from his friend Jordain, he investigates among scholars, scribes and townsfolk, against a backdrop of medieval bookmaking, university rivalries and a town marked by plague.
