The Blood of the Lamb is a novel by Peter De Vries, first published in 1961. Don Wanderhope grows up in a Dutch Calvinist family in Chicago and loses his brother, his first love and his wife. He loses his faith along the way, and his young daughter Carol becomes the center of his life until she falls ill with leukemia. Based on De Vries's own loss of his daughter, the novel combines humor and grief to ask how one can live with suffering.
