The Black Death
Categories: History
The Black Death is a collection of contemporary sources on the plague that swept Europe from 1348, translated and edited by historian Rosemary Horrox. The book gathers chronicles, letters, sermons, medical treatises and official records, many from England, to show how people at the time described the pestilence, tried to explain it and responded to it. Horrox introduces each section, covering the plague's spread, its causes as understood then, the search for scapegoats and its social effects.

- John Green: “I really love the book, "The Black Death" by Rosemary Horrox. It's a collection of first person accounts of the four year period in which approximately half of all Europeans died of plague.”
