The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, Traitor to the Nation, Volume I: The Pox Party is a novel by M. T. Anderson, published in 2006. In Boston before the American Revolution, Octavian, a Black boy, is raised by a group of philosophers who give him a classical education. He learns that he is the subject of an experiment to test the intellect of Africans. As war approaches, he escapes and faces the question of liberty. The book won the National Book Award for Young People's Literature.
