The Art Thief: A True Story of Love, Crime, and a Dangerous Obsession
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs
The Art Thief (2023) is Michael Finkel's true story of Stéphane Breitwieser, a Frenchman who stole more than two hundred works of art from small museums and churches across Europe in the 1990s and early 2000s. Working with his girlfriend, he took pieces in daylight, without violence, and kept them in an attic room in his mother's house rather than selling them. Based on interviews with Breitwieser, Finkel traces his thefts, his obsession with beauty and the fate of the collection.
