The Annals & The Histories

By Tacitus

Categories: History

This Modern Library volume (2003) pairs the Roman historian Tacitus's two major surviving works in the Church and Brodribb translation, edited by Moses Hadas and introduced by Shelby Foote. The Annals follow the Julio-Claudian emperors from the death of Augustus in AD 14 through Tiberius, Claudius and Nero, recording treason trials, palace intrigue, Boudicca's revolt in Britain and the Great Fire of Rome. The Histories cover the civil wars of AD 69, the year of four emperors, and the rise of Vespasian.
