In Tarzan Triumphant (1932), the fifteenth book in Edgar Rice Burroughs's series, a Soviet agent, Leon Stabutch, travels to Africa to kill Tarzan, while an American geologist, a Chicago gunman and a British aviator who has bailed out of her plane wander into the same remote region. Their paths cross near Midian, a hidden valley where descendants of early Christians practice a harsh, distorted faith, and Tarzan is drawn in to help the stranded travelers.
