As a rabies-like virus spreads through Massachusetts, turning victims violent, the pediatrician Ramola Sherman gets a call from her friend Natalie, who is close to her due date and has been bitten while trying to save her husband from an infected man. Paul Tremblay follows the two women through a state gripped by panic as they race to get Natalie vaccinated and find a safe place to deliver her baby, crossing paths with two teenage boys, Josh and Luis, along the way.
