Stride Toward Freedom: The Montgomery Story
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, History
Martin Luther King Jr.'s first book, published in 1958, is his own account of the Montgomery bus boycott of 1955 and 1956. He describes how Rosa Parks's arrest led Black residents to stay off the city's buses for more than a year, how he was chosen to lead the protest at twenty-six, and how the boycott held together despite arrests, bombings and threats. He also sets out the ideas behind his commitment to nonviolent resistance.
