In the final novel of John le Carré's Karla trilogy, retired spymaster George Smiley is called back to deal with the murder of an old agent in London. The killing leads Smiley to a secret that could finally expose Karla, his longtime adversary at the head of Soviet intelligence. Following the trail from London to Hamburg and Switzerland, Smiley builds a case and sets a trap. Published in 1979, the book completes the story begun in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
