In 1610 Galileo Galilei published this short report on what he saw when he turned his new telescope to the night sky. Galileo describes the rough, mountainous surface of the Moon, countless stars invisible to the naked eye and four moons orbiting Jupiter. These discoveries challenged the old view of the heavens and supported a Sun-centered universe. This edition, translated by Albert Van Helden, includes an introduction and notes on the book's context.
