Categories: Literature & Fiction

Owen West's first novel, Sharkman Six, follows Lieutenant Gavin Kelly, whose Marine reconnaissance platoon swims ashore on a Mogadishu beach under news cameras' glare at the start of Operation Restore Hope. Minutes after the landing, one of his men kills an armed Somali bodyguard in unclear circumstances. Kelly must face an outcry from the press, censure from his superiors and the risk of losing his men's loyalty. As his platoon moves deeper into the violence of Somalia, he contends with warlords and restrictive rules of engagement.

• Jocko Willink: “We mentioned your son Owen. Um again, he authored a book called The Snake Eaters about his time as an advisor in Iraq... An incredible incredible job that they did. Crazy job, risky job. Uh not glorious job and he wrote about that in his book. He also wrote Sharkman 6 and 4 Days to Veracruz. Some great books.”
