Seven Gothic Tales
By Isak Dinesen
Categories: Literature & Fiction
Seven Gothic Tales is a 1934 collection of stories by Isak Dinesen, the pen name of the Danish writer Karen Blixen, author of Out of Africa. It was her first book, published in English in the United States and an immediate success. Set largely in nineteenth-century Europe, the seven elaborate, mysterious tales, among them The Deluge at Norderney and The Monkey, are filled with aristocrats, artists, ghosts and disguises, and explore fate, storytelling and the masks people wear, in a richly ornate and ironic style.
