Scoop
By Evelyn Waugh
Categories: Literature & Fiction
Scoop (1938) is a comic novel by Evelyn Waugh. Nature columnist William Boot is mistakenly sent by his newspaper to cover a war in the fictional African country of Ishmaelia. Waugh satirizes the press pack, foreign correspondents and the absurdities of newspaper competition as Boot stumbles through a war story he never meant to report and barely understands as rival papers invent their own wars.

- Fareed Zakaria: “This week's book of the week was inspired by the recent sale of the "Washington Post." The transaction got me thinking about the good old days of journalism and that in turn brought to mind Evelyn Waugh's "Scoop." It is probably the best novel ever written about journalism. It's well worth a read or a re-read this summer.”
