Savages is a 2010 crime novel by Don Winslow, author of The Power of the Dog. Ben and Chon are two friends in Laguna Beach, California, who run a successful marijuana business, Ben as the peaceful botanist and Chon as a former Navy SEAL. When a brutal Mexican cartel demands a cut of their trade and kidnaps O, the woman they both love, the pair plot a violent rescue. Written in a fast, fragmented style, the novel was adapted by Oliver Stone into a 2012 film, and Winslow later wrote a prequel, The Kings of Cool.
