Redshirts is John Scalzi's comic science fiction novel about the low-ranking crew members of a starship who notice that away missions keep killing people like them. Ensign Andrew Dahl joins the flagship Intrepid and soon realizes that officers always survive while junior crew die in absurd ways. With his friends he sets out to find out why, before his own name comes up for an away mission. The novel is a playful riff on Star Trek.
