Red Planet (1949) is one of Robert A. Heinlein's novels for young readers. Jim Marlowe and his friend Frank go to boarding school on a colonized Mars, taking with them Willis, a small, round Martian creature that can repeat anything it hears. When the school's new headmaster tries to confiscate Willis, the boys uncover a plan that endangers the colonists, and they flee across the frozen Martian canals.
