Raw Dog: The Naked Truth About Hot Dogs

By Jamie Loftus

Categories: Humor & Entertainment, Travel

Raw Dog (Forge, 2023) is comedian Jamie Loftus's account of her summer of 2021, driving from Los Angeles to Massachusetts and eating hot dogs on the way. Visiting stands from Santa Fe to Coney Island, she samples regional styles, from a bologna-wrapped dog in Baltimore to Chicago's version, and interviews Wienermobile drivers. Between stops she traces the hot dog's roots among immigrant communities, the labor and animal-welfare problems of meatpacking and the Nathan's eating contest, while writing about her father's lung surgery.
