Rain Makes Applesauce
Categories: Children's Books
Rain Makes Applesauce (1964, Holiday House) is a picture book written by Julian Scheer and illustrated by Marvin Bileck. Each page offers a cheerful piece of nonsense, such as the title claim that rain makes applesauce, answered by the refrain "Oh, you're just talking silly talk." Bileck's finely detailed, dreamlike drawings hide small stories within the pictures, inviting young readers to linger and look, while the repeated line gives them a phrase to chant along with the adult reading aloud.

- Sarah Jessica Parker: “The second book is called Rain Makes Applesauce. It's this kind of wildly fantastic sort of book... It's an incredible book.”
