Radical Love: Teachings from the Islamic Mystical Tradition
By Omid Safi
Categories: Religion & Spirituality
Omid Safi translates passages from the Qur'an, the hadith and Arabic and Persian Sufi poetry and prose, arguing that love, rooted in God's desire to be known, lies at the heart of the Islamic mystical tradition. Arranged in four sections, God of Love, Path of Love, Lover and Beloved, and Beloved Community, the anthology draws heavily on Rumi, Attar and Kharaqani, with biographical notes on the major figures and a fragment of qawwali sung by the Sabri Brothers. Safi favors fresh, poetic renderings over literal ones.
