Race Matters

Categories: Politics & Social Sciences

Philosopher Cornel West's influential 1993 collection of essays on race in American life, written in the wake of the 1992 Los Angeles riots. West examines nihilism in Black America, the crisis of Black leadership, affirmative action, Black-Jewish relations and the legacy of Malcolm X, and calls for a public conversation about race grounded in shared democratic values. The 25th anniversary edition adds a new introduction.
