Pregnant Girl
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs
Pregnant Girl (2021) is the memoir of Nicole Lynn Lewis, founder of Generation Hope, about becoming a mother as a Black teenager and putting herself through college. Lewis describes leaving home, homelessness, hunger and an abusive relationship before enrolling at the College of William & Mary in 1999 with her infant daughter. Weaving in the stories of young parents she has worked with, she argues that poverty, classism and racism shape teen pregnancy and calls for policies that help student parents finish college.
