Passport to Magonia: From Folklore to Flying Saucers
Categories: Religion & Spirituality, Science & Math
Jacques Vallée compares modern reports of UFO landings and their occupants with folklore of fairies, elves and other otherworldly visitors. Its title borrows from a ninth-century account by Archbishop Agobard of Lyon of peasants who believed ships from Magonia sailed the clouds. Vallée traces recurring motifs such as abductions, changelings and gifts of strange food, setting the 1961 case of a Wisconsin man handed pancakes by a saucer crew beside Celtic fairy lore. An appendix catalogs 923 landing reports from 1868 to 1968.

- Joe Rogan: “I'm going through Jacques Vallée's stuff because he's coming on the podcast again and so I've been going through all of his books. He's got several books and he's got a very nuanced perspective on this whole UFO thing”
