Opticks
By Isaac Newton
Categories: Science & Math
Isaac Newton's Opticks presents his experiments and theories on light and color. Newton describes how white light is made up of colors, how prisms and lenses bend light, how rainbows form and how colored bodies reflect light. The book ends with a series of queries, open questions on light, matter and nature that influenced later science. First published in English in 1704, it was written for a wider audience than his Principia.

- Neil deGrasse Tyson: “Isaac Newton in his book Opticks, published 1704... At the end of his book, he has a section called queries. By the way, that's where I get the word cosmic queries.”
