One Mississippi
Categories: Literature & Fiction
One Mississippi is a 2006 novel by Mark Childress, author of Crazy in Alabama, which became a 1999 film. It is a coming-of-age story set in Mississippi in the 1970s. Daniel Musgrove's family moves to a small Mississippi town, where he and his friend Tim join the school drama club and try to survive high school. Daniel falls for Arnita, an African American classmate, until an accident on prom night changes everything. The novel mixes broad comedy with racism and tragedy.

- Stephen King: “Great novels of adolescence should provide belly laughs and tragedy. This story, in which young Daniel Musgrove moves to Mississippi from Indiana in 1973 (his salesman father is transferred), delivers both.”
