One Good Turn (2006) is Kate Atkinson's second novel to feature former detective Jackson Brodie, after Case Histories. During the Edinburgh Festival, a road-rage attack in a traffic queue sets off a chain of events that draws in a timid crime novelist, a corrupt developer's wife, a police inspector and Brodie, who has come to the city with his girlfriend. Bodies, coincidences and overlapping lives turn a single violent moment into a wider mystery.
