On Looking: Eleven Walks with Expert Eyes
Categories: Science & Math
The psychologist Alexandra Horowitz set out to learn what she missed on ordinary walks in her New York neighborhood, taking eleven walks around the city with companions who see the world differently. Her companions include the geologist Sidney Horenstein, the typographer Paul Shaw, the illustrator Maira Kalman, a blind woman, a sound designer, her toddler son and her dog, Finnegan. Each walk reveals overlooked layers, from fossils in building stone to lettering on signs, alongside research into attention.
