News from Nowhere: Television and the News

By Edward Jay Epstein

Categories: Politics & Social Sciences

Edward Jay Epstein's study of how American network television news gets made rests on observing NBC News in 1968 and 1969, plus months at ABC and CBS and many interviews. This Ivan R. Dee edition reprints the 1973 book. Epstein argues that the evening news is shaped less by individual reporters than by the organization behind them: budgets, the need to hold an audience, production centered in New York, where camera crews are based and the fairness rules of federal regulators.
