Netochka Nezvanova
Categories: Literature & Fiction
Netochka Nezvanova (1849) is Fyodor Dostoevsky's unfinished first attempt at a full-length novel. The narrator, Netochka, recalls her childhood in poverty with her mother and a stepfather, a failed violinist who believes he is a genius. After their deaths she grows up in the homes of wealthy families in St. Petersburg. Dostoevsky stopped writing it when he was arrested in 1849 for belonging to the Petrashevsky Circle.
