My Phantoms is a 2021 novel by British writer Gwendoline Riley about Bridget, a woman in her forties, and her difficult relationship with her mother, Helen, known as Hen. Told in Bridget's dry, precise voice, the novel moves from her childhood with her divorced parents, including her cruel, performative father, to her adult attempts to keep up dutiful meetings with Hen. It explores how families fail to understand one another, and how a daughter tries to keep her distance while still doing her duty.
