My Day with Gong Gong (2020) by Sennah Yee, illustrated by Elaine Chen, is a picture book set in Toronto's Chinatown. May spends the day running errands with her grandfather, Gong Gong. He speaks mostly Cantonese, she speaks mostly English, and she feels left out and bored as he chats with friends around the neighborhood. Over the course of the day, May starts to notice the small ways her grandfather is paying attention to her.
