Mrs. Caliban
Categories: Literature & Fiction
Mrs. Caliban is a 1982 novella by the American writer Rachel Ingalls, named one of the best American novels since World War II by the British Book Marketing Council and rediscovered in recent years. Dorothy, a grieving California housewife trapped in a loveless marriage, hears on the radio that a monstrous 'aquatic man' has escaped from a research institute. When the gentle, green-skinned creature appears in her kitchen, she hides him in her home and the two fall in love, in a strange, funny and haunting fable.

- Margaret Atwood: “This disturbing but seductive 1982 novella tells the story of a benumbed, bereft housewife who starts up a relationship with a green-skinned, semi-aquatic, humanoid male.”
