Monster

Monster is a young adult novel by Walter Dean Myers, first published in 1999. Sixteen-year-old Steve Harmon is on trial for murder for his alleged role as a lookout in a robbery that ended in a shop owner's death. Written as a screenplay with journal entries, the book follows Steve as he tries to make sense of the trial and of who he really is. It won the first Michael L. Printz Award and was a National Book Award finalist.
