Meno

Can virtue be taught? Plato's dialogue opens abruptly with the Thessalian aristocrat Meno putting that question to Socrates, who replies that he does not even know what virtue is. Meno's attempts at a definition all fail. Socrates then questions a slave boy with no training in geometry about how to double the area of a square, arguing that learning is the recollection of knowledge the soul already possesses. The dialogue also distinguishes knowledge from true opinion.
