Little Deaths (2017) is Emma Flint's first novel, a literary crime story set in Queens, New York, in 1965 and inspired by the real case of Alice Crimmins. Ruth Malone, a young mother separated from her husband, wakes one summer morning to find her two children missing from their bedroom. Because she drinks, dates men and wears makeup, police, press and neighbours quickly judge her. A young reporter, Pete Wonicki, becomes drawn into the case and begins to doubt the story everyone else believes.
