Little Boy Blue (1981) is a crime novel by Edward Bunker, who drew on his own youth in California reform schools and jails. In 1940s Los Angeles, eleven-year-old Alex Hammond is placed in foster homes and juvenile institutions after his father can no longer care for him. Repeated escapes, brutal staff and older inmates push him further into violence and crime, as the system meant to help him turns him into a hardened young criminal.
