Light Years
By James Salter
Categories: Literature & Fiction
James Salter's 1975 novel follows Viri and Nedra Berland, an architect and his wife, across some twenty years, beginning in 1958 at their old house on the Hudson River north of New York City. Their days fill with dinner parties, games with their daughters Franca and Danny, trips into Manhattan and summers on the beach at Amagansett. Salter builds the book from brief, closely observed scenes that show how affairs, restlessness and the passing years test the marriage.
